Blogger Spotlight: Meet Ashton Long

This is the first in our series on bloggers who inspire us. Women have such amazing stories to tell and we are excited to be able to share some of the women in our Synergy community. Ashton Long is the amazing creator of the Authentic Woman Series. The project brings together a community of women who share their diverse experiences and inspirations in order to empower, inspire, and fight injustice.

Ashton also has an amazing Instagram feed (@ashton_m_long) where she shares life, positivity, and style inspiration. We got the opportunity to ask Ashton a few questions and were so inspired by her answers! Read the interview below:

You have such a bright, cohesive look. What advice would you give to newbies interested in fashion to help them create a curated sense of style?

Here’s two pieces of advice I have for people just starting out:

1| Get inspired by your personality. For me, I’m super peppy, energetic and bubbly. So, naturally, my style is more vibrant and colorful. Are you mysterious and moody, energetic and funky, humorous and light-hearted? Explore your style by tapping into your personality. It’s more fun that way!

2| Create a mood board. Hop onto Pinterest and have a pinning spree! Pin anything and everything that speaks to you. The more you add to the board, the more you will see a common theme throughout. Pick and choose different pictures on that board and start curating outfits based on those. Sometimes a little inspiration is all it takes!

What are your top 3 most necessary and loved items in your wardrobe?

1| MY HAT. This was the easiest answer. I wear it all the time, and it adds so much character to any outfit.

2| My dark wash jeans

3| My Dazey LA, graphic T-shirts

What is The Authentic Woman and what inspired you to start it?

The Authentic Woman is a platform that empowers women to live authentically as themselves, discover their purpose, and be a catalyst for positive change.

I started TAW because I realized this need in society for women to realize the truth of who they are. Because when we know who we are and we aren’t afraid to be just that, we walk in such authority and power. There’s so many unrealistic expectations women are expected to live up to, and I wanted to build a community where women could create a new standard… A community where women know they belong, have room to discover their purpose, live authentically as themselves and be a catalyst for positive change in the world. I also knew that this would require so much more than myself… It was meant to be a community.

Where do you see The Authentic Woman series going over the next couple of years?

I see The Authentic Woman continuing to expand beyond the written publication. I see it becoming an online training space, bigger community and even expanding into in-person events!

The way that you write and share on your feed and The Authentic Woman is very powerful and kind of vulnerable. This is something that a lot of women struggle with. What advice would you give people who are struggling (or feeling intimidated) with finding their creative voice?

Making any connection requires your willingness to be real, raw, authentic, and vulnerable. People will not trust you if you are not real, and being real requires that you get pretty vulnerable. It doesn’t always feel good, but at the end of the day, so many people are going to resonate with your heart. Here’s my biggest tip: JUST START. Share one of your pain-points with your audience. Share a pretty vulnerable experience you recently encountered. Share your fears, insecurities, and doubts. They prove that you are human and make you relatable.

We are so grateful to Ashton for taking the time to share with us! Now go check out the Authentic Woman Series. Prepare to be inspired! Just look at all the amazing stories you could be reading!
